Preserving food has always been part of our nature, as humans we have spent centuries trying to figure out ways to preserve the freshest seasonal ingredients. Once preserved these ingredients can be enjoyed all year round. Join us for this preservation workshop so you can start preserving your own food at home! Our main focus of this workshop is to show people how to preserve food safely and efficiently without using any artificial additives. The workshop begins with a presentation from one of our chef instructors covering the basics of food hygiene, the theory covering different preservation techniques as well as some fun facts about the history of preservation. After the theory portion each student will have the opportunity to make three different types of natural preserves; a sweet and sour red onion chutney, a jar of pickled seasonal vegetables as well as making a brine to preserve lemons & other great ingredients. What will I learn? How to make perfect jams from seasonal ingredients Spice up your cheese platters with some homemade chutneys Pickle food to add a little zing to your daily meals Safely store foods at room temperature Basic knife skills Apply kitchen professionalism: timing, cleanliness and organisation
